D2R Season 15 Ending: When the Ladder Closes, What Happens to Your Stash and How to Prepare
Diablo II: Resurrected Ladder Season 15 went live on August 21, 2026 alongside Patch 3.3, and it's now more than two months old. That means the question we hear every season is back: when does the ladder end, and what happens to my stuff when it does?
As of October 29, Blizzard hasn't announced Season 15's end date. What we do know, straight from Blizzard, is how the reset now works, and it changed this season. There's also one stash rule that quietly deletes items every season for players who don't know about it. This guide covers the realistic end-date window, the new three-step reset schedule, exactly what happens to your characters and shared stash, what Blizzard has said about where D2R goes next, and a checklist to finish before the ladder closes.
Season 15 at a Glance
- Started: Friday, August 21, 2026, 5:00 PM PDT (August 22 in Europe and Asia), with Patch 3.3.
- Ends: not announced yet.
- Season 16: not announced yet.
- Biggest risk: Season 14 items still sitting in your withdraw-only shared stash tabs are lost when Season 15 ends.
When Will Season 15 End?
Blizzard doesn't announce ladder end dates far in advance. Here's what the recent history tells us:
- Season 14 ran from May 22 to August 17, 2026, about 87 days.
- Blizzard published the full Season 15 schedule on August 7, just ten days before Season 14 ended.
- If Season 15 runs as long as Season 14, it would end around mid-November. Community season trackers currently estimate around November 28.
So the realistic window is mid-to-late November, possibly with only around ten days' notice. None of these dates are confirmed, and Blizzard has run longer and shorter seasons before. The practical takeaway: do your end-of-season prep in early November rather than waiting for the announcement.
We'll update this guide as soon as Blizzard posts the official dates.
The New Reset Schedule: Three Steps, Not One
Starting with Season 15, Blizzard changed how the changeover works. Instead of the old ladder ending and the new one starting together, the ladder end, the patch and the new ladder start now happen on separate days. Here's how the last changeover went:
- Monday, August 17, 11:00 AM PDT: Ladder Season 14 ended.
- Tuesday, August 18: the Season 15 patch (3.3) began rolling out.
- Friday, August 21, 5:00 PM PDT: Ladder Season 15 started. That was 2:00 AM CEST and 1:00 AM BST on August 22 in Europe, and 8:00 AM CST / 9:00 AM KST on August 22 in Asia.
Blizzard has said future seasons will follow a similar schedule. In practice that means a few days with no active ladder between seasons. Plan for it: the gap is a good time to move items, set up mules and get your Season 16 starter planned, not a time you can keep farming ladder.
What Happens to Your Characters and Stash When the Ladder Ends
Blizzard spelled the rules out in its Season 15 announcement. When a ladder season ends:
- Your characters move to Non-Ladder. In Blizzard's words, "all Ladder characters will be transferred to their respective non-ladder group." A Softcore ladder character becomes a Softcore Non-Ladder character, Hardcore goes to Hardcore, and so on. Everything equipped and in their personal stash goes with them.
- Your ladder shared stash becomes withdraw-only. "All items in that character group's Shared Stash go into a new Withdraw Only set of Shared Stash tabs," marked with a checked "Past" box. You can take items out of these tabs, but you can't put anything in.
- You get one season to empty them. Blizzard gives you the whole next season to withdraw anything you want to keep. At the end of that season, the old withdraw-only tabs are replaced by the newest season's shared stash.
Warning: Season 14 Items Will Be Lost When Season 15 Ends
This is the rule that catches people every season. When Season 14 ended in August, everything in Season 14's ladder shared stash went into withdraw-only "Past" tabs. Those tabs only last until the end of Season 15. Blizzard's own warning: "Be sure to get any items out before then, or they will be forever lost!"
If you played Season 14 ladder and never cleaned out your shared stash, do this now:
- Log in with a Non-Ladder character in the same mode as your old Season 14 ladder characters (Softcore with Softcore, Hardcore with Hardcore).
- Open the shared stash and look for the tabs marked "Past".
- Move everything you want to keep into a character's inventory or personal stash. Make a mule character or two if you're short on space.
- Repeat for each mode you played.
Then, in the last days of Season 15, do the reverse: keep your best Season 15 items on characters or in a tidy shared stash, so you know exactly what's there when it turns into withdraw-only tabs.
Quick Recap: What Patch 3.3 Changed
If you're deciding what to keep, sell or chase before the season closes, remember what Patch 3.3 did. These item changes were Ladder only, and only for Reign of the Warlock:
- Bloodletter gained 20% Faster Run/Walk.
- The Battlebranch's item level dropped from 34 to 30, and its required level from 25 to 17.
- Rogue's Bow gained +1–3 to Cold Arrow or Fire Arrow (Amazon only), and Pluckeye gained 25% Increased Attack Speed.
- Bane Ash lost its 20% IAS and 50–60% Enhanced Damage, and gained 20% Faster Cast Rate. Gravenspine gained 10% Faster Cast Rate.
- Blinkbat's Form went from 10% to 30% Faster Run/Walk and gained +1 Mana after each kill.
- The Ward gained a socket, and Manald Heal gained 10% Faster Run/Walk.
- The Angelic Raiment set got +6 damage on the Sickle and +100% damage to undead on the Mantle (3-piece bonuses), plus +1 to all skills on the full set.
Patch 3.3 also changed Terror Zones and Colossal Ancients. Herald Tier 3+ monsters have a better chance at Rare-or-better drops, and the minimum drop level for Latent Sunder Charms went from 69 to 75. Sunder Charms found through Magic Find now drop less often and only in Hell difficulty (Herald drop rates were not affected). Worldstone Shards drop less often but now come with an extra item, and Ancient Statues drop less often. For a deeper dive, see our Season 15 Terror Zones & Sunder Charms guide.
What's Next for D2R: What Blizzard Has Actually Said
Season 16 hasn't been announced, and D2R didn't get a headline announcement at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony (September 12–13, Anaheim), which focused on Diablo V and Diablo IV. The most concrete information comes from an impromptu BlizzCon interview with content creator MrLlamaSC, where Matt Cederquist, Principal Producer on Diablo II: Resurrected, talked about the game's direction, as reported by DiabloFilter:
- Item reworks will keep coming every ladder season, "little by little." The first batch (around ten items plus a set, like the Patch 3.3 list above) was a small test. Cederquist floated about 25 items per season as a good target, and said up to 211 items could potentially be touched.
- Mosaic changes are coming. He confirmed "there's going to be some nice Mosaic stuff coming up," said the fix may involve skills rather than just the item, and indicated the team is taking its time to get it right. A Mosaic PTR is expected at some point, with no date.
- Spirit and Stealth were discussed, but nothing was decided. He questioned whether items like these make gear choices too easy. No change was announced.
None of this has a release date, and it isn't patch notes. But it's a strong signal that each new ladder season will keep changing the value of certain uniques and runewords. That's worth remembering if you're holding expensive items like Mosaic or Spirit and wondering whether to trade them before Season 16. For the unconfirmed rumours that circulated before BlizzCon, see our BlizzCon 2026 leaks roundup, and keep in mind none of those have been confirmed.
End-of-Season Checklist
Now (early November):
- Empty your Season 14 "Past" withdraw-only tabs (see above). This is the one step where waiting costs you items permanently.
- Make a couple of Non-Ladder mules in each mode you play, so you have space when your Season 15 stash turns withdraw-only.
- Finish any ladder goals you care about while the ladder population and trade activity are still high.
Before the ladder closes:
- Decide what to trade and what to keep. Your ladder characters and their items carry over into Non-Ladder, where the trading population and prices are different.
- Write down what's in your shared stash, so you're not hunting through Past tabs next season.
- Pick your Season 16 starter. Our Season 15 tier list is the best current reference until Season 16's patch notes land.
Ladder start:
- Remember there will likely be a gap of a few days between the old ladder ending and the new one starting. Use it to plan, not panic.
- The first days of a new ladder are when runes and runewords are scarcest. If you'd rather skip the slow start, our Ladder Starter Pack and Ladder Start Mercenary Pack get a fresh character going fast, and our leveling service handles the climb for you.
- Saving up for endgame runewords? Ber, Jah, Lo, Sur, Ohm and Vex are the high runes that gate items like Enigma, Infinity and Grief. Our From Scratch to Enigma guide shows the cheapest route.
You can browse everything in our rune and runeword catalogs. Choose Ladder or Non-Ladder in the selector on each item page.
